Iceberg Lake

staceyschramm

I let the kid pick the hike today and he chose Iceberg Lake. We have hiked to Iceberg 2 other times but it is an incredible hike that is a bit different every time.

It is about 5 miles one way with 1200 feet of vertical gain.

It is an area where we have seen grizzly bears 25 yards off the trail, but not this time. Many others saw a mom and cub so we knew they were in the area and were aware. We never hike without bear spray (although my husband would argue that it's not going to do much except make you feel safer?!).

It was a beautiful morning after a pretty stormy night at Swiftcurrent Cabins.

The Iceberg Lake trail was shaded most of the way to the falls which are right before the Ptarmagin Tunnel split.

Tons of wildflowers and BEAR GRASS! Love bear grass- it is in the lily family and bears don't eat it! I will write another post about bear grass- I just love it!!

There was a lot of rain this spring and a late snow which has made the wildflowers better than ever!

Iceberg Lake had a ton of snow the last mile or so- fun slipping and sliding to the lake. Built a snowman like I did at the Grand Canyon in January!

Bribed the kid to stand on an Iceberg in the lake. Not surprised that he ended up with wet shoes! Funny video of that one!

Fun hike and time well spent with the kid! We have tons of time to talk while hiking and that is the best! We have each other's undivided attention!

While we were hiking to Iceberg Lake Grandpa hung out at Fishercap Lake hoping to see moose. A research team is busy taking soil samples from the bottom of the lake so not much moose action during the day!

We were out about 5 hours and came back to pizza Grandpa had ordered from Nells ❤️
