Quick stop in Bemijidi Minnesota on the shore of Lake Bemijidi and the Mississippi river.
Bemijidi Minnesota has the claim to fame of being the first city on the Mississippi. Fun waterfront park with the largest Paul Bunyan and Babe statues. Had to get a picture of the guys with Paul and Babe as well as the dancing Indian Niiemii. We missed the statue of Chief Bemijidi for who the town is named for.
About 25 miles south of Bemijidi is Lake Itasca, the Headwaters of the Mississippi River.
While driving through Lake Itasca State Park we had a bear run right across the road in front of us. So cool! No time for a picture it happened so quick, but we could have never captured how cool it was in person! We weren't expecting that at all even though all of the north could be bear country!
The Headwaters of the Mississppi is where the river begins it's 2552 mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico.
We all of course had to touch the water and walk on the rocks between the river and lake.
Perfect weather and company!
Leaving Lake Itasca, we still had 120 miles till Grand Forks, ND and we had the most beautiful sky and sunbeams guide us the rest of the way across Minnesota. Thanks Grandma ❤️
