Endings and Beginnings

So July 9 finally arrived.....

A day I have been looking forward to and dreading all at the same time.

Started the day by dropping Erick off at Detroit Metro airport for a short deployment to Germany. He has NATO orders through Jan 5, but is planning to be back late Sept/early Oct. We will see if the Army agrees with his time frame!

I was dreading July 9 as I knew I was dropping him off and won't see him again until ???, but looking forward to July 9 as my dad, Robert, and I start our venture north and west.

Once he was dropped off and checked in for his 10am flight, the truck was headed north on I- 75 (275-96-23-75) to the UP.

6 hr and 40 min from the airport was our destination- Bark River, Michigan. My brother in law and sister in law had a 20th anniversary party last night (which we had planned to make before we knew Erick was leaving on the 9th) and we stopped in to see everyone who came and was camping at their place. They have a gorgeous place with 160 acres along the Bark River in the South Central UP.

We hung out, riding through the property and catching up with family and friends.

This would be a fantastic vacation spot on it's own with so much to do!!

It was fun catching up with my sister in law and hearing about the festivities of the last few days between her birthday and 20th anniversary. My brother in law surprised her with the anniversary party, but before that, a quick trip to a great motel in Eagle Harbor on Lake Superior with a suprise vow renewal ceremony on the shore. He had her girlfriends show up with her wedding dress that he snuck out of the house for the ceremony- they brought a bouquet and all attended the small ceremony his good buddy Jay performed. Kudos to him for pulling off the surprise- hard to get one past a Schramm girl!

We said our good byes and stayed a few minutes away at the Island Resort and Casino for the night. My dad and I went downstairs to try our luck- heck, we have a lot of gas to pay for over the next few weeks!!

We spent about $30 on the penny machines and went back to our room with about $20 so pretty much broke even. Easy check in and room was nice and would stay there again! They even have a Waterpark. It is a $20 add on and you get 4 wristbands for entry. We got there around 8pm so we declined that for this trip.

Ended with a perfect sunset- hopefully the first of many over the next few weeks......funny how much better the sunsets are on vacation!
