Canadian Rockies

We crossed the border on Saturday and stayed overnight in Radium Hot Springs on what's considered the 'hot' side of the Canadian Rockies. After a good nights rest, a quick gas up (2.01 a liter- 3.78L to gallon) and car wash (to get the bugs off!) we were ready to take on the Canadian National Parks.

Radium Hot Springs is the western entrance to Kootenay NP so we entered the park there around 7am.

There were so many cool spots to check out along the way! We first stopped at the Simpson bridge where I took one of my favorite all time pics of my dad standing on the bridge as the sun was coming up behind him. With no filters, the colors there and all along our trip are just incredible.

It was chilly and the water was rushing everywhere from such a wet spring.

We stopped along the way at Numa Falls for a short hike (couple hundred yards-can barely call it a hike?!) We were rewarded with incredible views and an awesome demonstration of the power of water!!

Hardly anyone else was on the road when we started out and we had Numa Falls all to ourselves. So much power and peace all in one spot!

Next stop was Marble Canyon where we took about a half hour to hike the canyon and falls- close to a mile round trip. It took us uphill (sorry dad) over a series of 5 bridges that crisscrossed Marble Canyon and led to Marble Falls. Again, such a powerful flow going through the canyon!

When we were done hiking here a lot of others were getting ready to hike. We had perfect timing getting there early to have this one mostly to ourselves! I can see how the canyon would change with the position of the sun throughout the day.

We continued on to some overlooks and the continental divide monument which had Grandpa and Robert on opposite watershed flows, one going towards the Atlantic, the other Pacific.

The Continental divide monument was the last spot we visited in Kootenay NP in British Columbia before we crossed over into Banff NP in Alberta.

We continued into Banff and up through the Icefield Parkway into Jasper NP before stopping in Hinton, Alberta for the night. I will talk about Banff and the most breathtaking lakes I have ever seen in another post so I don't go over my word count! Kootenay NP had enough beautiful stops that it warranted attention here all on it's own ❤️
